    MUMBAI: On the occasion of its 1st anniversary, Viacom18?s 24x7 comedy channel Comedy Central India is bringing the multi award winning Ugly Betty to India. The show will premiere on the channel on Monday 21 January at 9.00 pm.

    Ugly Betty is based on a popular Colombian telenovela which has already been successfully translated in many markets across the globe like Mexico, India, Russia, Greece and Germany. In India, it has been reproduced as ?Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin?.

    The one hour show will see episodes from Season 1 where the lead protagonist - Betty Suarez, a 22-year-old, quirky, Mexican American woman from Queens, New York lacks in fashion sense but has always had one goal in life: to make it in the publishing business. She is known to be bold, good-hearted, smart and hard-working but due to personal circumstances she is thrown into a different world when she lands a job at Mode, a trendy, high fashion magazine based in Manhattan.

    Comedy Central?s new show Ugly Betty will also include a robust cross promotion plan across network and outside network channels, promotions in print media, mailers and trade touch points along with interactivity on Twitter and Facebook. The show will also see innovations across Inox, Gold?s Gym and Crossword amongst others.

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has announced it has licensed several series including its three new scripted shows - ‘Last Resort, ‘The Mob Doctor‘ and ‘Made in Jersey‘ - to subscription broadcasters across Latin America ahead of the television trade event Mipcom in Cannes, France next week. The announcement was made by SPTsenior VP, distribution, Latin America, US Hispanic and the Caribbean Alexander Marin.

    SPT has sold its new medical drama ‘The Mob Doctor‘ to FOX International Channels Latin America and ‘Made in Jersey‘ to A&E. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Television Networks, Latin America has picked up ‘The Client List‘, which will premiere on Set this month, as well as the one-hour drama Last Resort to air on AXN in November. In addition, SPT has sold ‘Men at Work‘ and ‘Kathy‘ to Viacom International Media for Comedy Central.

    Marin said, "Demand for our new slate of scripted series has been overwhelmingly high in Latin America. Whether it is thrilling dramas, light-hearted comedies or thought-provoking procedurals, our diverse catalog of US content equips broadcasters with a variety of high-quality shows that fit their programming needs".

    ‘The Mob Doctor‘ follows a young female thoracic surgeon who becomes indebted to the South Chicago mafia and is forced to moonlight as a "mob doctor" while also working full time at Chicago‘s most prominent hospital.

    ‘Made in Jersey‘ is a legal drama that centers on a working-class woman who uses her street smarts to compete with her more polished colleagues at a top New York law firm.

    ‘Last Resort‘ is a thriller set in the near future when the country is fractured and revolves around the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine who become hunted after ignoring an order to shoot nuclear missiles. They escape to a NATO listening outpost where they publicly declare themselves to be the world‘s smallest nuclear nation with 24 nuclear warheads.

  • Comedy Central unveils new shows

    Mumbai: Comedy Central has announced an array of programmers for its viewers.

    A poll on Comedy Central‘s Facebook page decided the top shows as fans voted for the ones they wanted to watch once again and the two shows that emerged as winners were -‘Seinfeld‘ and ‘That 70‘S Show‘

    Starting 17 September, the two shows will air 9 pm onwards.

    The fans of Seinfeld also stand a chance to win merchandise that‘s signed by Seinfeld himself. The lucky winners will be picked through a Facebook contest.

    Also, just introduced on the channel is a ‘Teen Block‘ with shows like ‘World Palooza‘ and ‘Pranked‘ and will soon also air ‘Jackass‘, catering "exclusively" to the teen audience.

    Viacom 18 Media SVP and GM - English entertainment Ferzad Palia said, "We are bringing two of the most popular comedy shows back on Comedy Central. The shows have done well for us and we are sure our viewers would love to have them back. We‘re confident that the impressive programming line-up coming up will keep the laughter quotient high as always."

    Apart from the return of the two popular shows, Comedy Central will also reload fresh seasons of ‘The Exes‘ and ‘30 Rock‘, amongst others.

    Seinfeld is an American television sitcom. Set predominantly in an apartment block in New York City‘s Manhattan‘s Upper West Side, the show features a host of Jerry‘s friends and acquaintances, in particular best friend George Costanza, former girlfriend Elaine Benes, and neighbor across the hall Cosmo Kramer.

    That ‘70s Show is an American television period sitcom that centers on the lives of a group of teenage friends living in the fictional suburban town of Point Place, Wisconsin, from May 17, 1976, to December 31, 1979.

    The Exes is an American comedy television series. Divorce attorney Holly (Kristen Johnston) introduces her client, Stuart (David Alan Basche), to his new roommates: two other divorced men who share an apartment that Holly owns. At first Phil (Donald Faison) and Haskell (Wayne Knight) have reservations about Stuart moving in, but Holly is right across the hall to help when things start to go downhill. The series is created by Mark Reisman.

    30 Rock is an American television comedy series created by Tina Fey. The series, which is loosely based on Tina Fey‘s experiences as head writer for Saturday Night Live, takes place behind the scenes of a fictional live sketch comedy series depicted. The series‘ name refers to 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, the address of the GE Building, in which the NBC Studios are located.

    MUMBAI: Viacom18?s comedy channel Comedy Central is looking to nurture talent of home grown comic artists through its new property ?Comedy Central Presents?, which is a tie-up with select stand up artists and comedy groups to promote their shows on-air, and on the digital space (facebook.com/comedycentralindia).

    ?Comedy Central Presents? will promote everything that is comic and some of the most recent associations have been with comedy fests like the Clean Comedy festival with Dan Nainan, The Ultimate Hahathon at Counter Culture every Thursday, Evam ? a popular stand up comedy group in Chennai. Other names promoted under the ?Comedy Central Presents? banner include Neeti Palta ? Loony Goons (Delhi), Karan Thapar ? Schitzengiggles (Mumbai), Raghav Mandava ?     ?CC Presents? aims at getting bigger and better by each passing week by adding more associations to the current list of tie-ups across artists performing in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The channels? main aim is to take over the comedy scene in India and be present where ever good comedy is.
