• Star World to air seventh season of 'How I Met Your Mother' from 31 May

    MUMBAI: Star World is launching the seventh season of its fiction property ?How I Met Your Mother?.

    Starting 31 May, the show will air every Monday to Friday at 11.30 pm.

    How I Met Your Mother is an American sitcom. Set in Manhattan, the show follows the social and romantic lives of Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) and his friends Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan) and Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris). As a framing device, the main character, Ted, using voiceover narration by Bob Saget, in the year 2030 recounts to his son and his daughter the events that led to his meeting their mother.

    This season has a of plethora surprises in its bag. It?s time for to be game for some hardcore surprises and varied twists in the plot. This season is also the one where Barney?s mysterious bride will be revealed.

  • Star World launches ?The Front Row? at 8.30 pm

    MUMBAI: English GEC Star World is airing a new film review show, ?The Front Row with Anupama Chopra?, every Friday from 27 April at 8:30 pm.

    The show is a film lovers? weekly cheat sheet into the world of entertainment with fun, film reviews, sneak-peeks and interaction and interviews with the biggest stars from Bollywood and Hollywood.

    ?The Front Row? will introduce a format that will not only bring forth the critic?s view but also establish the viewers? opinion about a film.

    Star India GM, senior VP, English Channels Saurabh Yagnik said, ?With ?The Front Row?, we are providing an interactive platform that will give our viewers a chance to meet with movie makers, analyse their films and make an informed decision about the film. Anupama Chopra is one of India?s most admired film critics. She is not only extremely well networked in Bollywood but has her reach extending to the biggest stars of Hollywood as well. ?

    The opening episode features an in-depth discussion on Superhero films wherein Anupama Chopra reviews the much awaited movie ?The Avengers? and interview the lead star cast- Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hiddleston.?

    Chopra added, ?The Front Row celebrates cinema - Bollywood, Hollywood and everything in between. The show has an exciting format and aims to capture all that is new and buzzing in the movies each week. We will present reviews, exclusive interviews, panel discussions and trivia. We want to bridge the gap between the exhilarating world of films and the expectations of viewers.? The show aims to fuse the audience?s bold opinions and Anupama?s analytical views about a film.

    The first segment of the show gives a roundup of the latest Hollywood and Bollywood news, along with Anupama?s filtered views on the latest film releases. The second segment is either a discussion forum, moderated by Chopra encouraging constructive interactions between the audience and the members of the film fraternity or a Roundtable discussion with directors, actors and roducers to talk about industry trends and their own experiences and craft or interviews with the Hollywood and Bollywood stars.

    The third and the last segment is more like a gossip shot for the audience called the ?Sneak Peak?. In this segment, hidden video clippings from Bollywood would be unveiled and shown to the viewers.

  • Star World premieres 'Missing' prior to global launch

    MUMBAI: English GEC Star World has announced that for the first time it will air an international show before its global launch.

    ?Missing?, an espionage drama, kicks off on 12 March at 9 pm. The series will launch simultaneously on both Star World and Star Movies.

    The show stars Ashley Judd, Sean Bean and Cliff Curtis.

    The show revolves around Becca Winstone, played by Judd, who is in search of her missing son. It soon becomes clear that this isn?t any ordinary woman, but a former CIA agent who will stop at nothing to bring her son home alive. There are exotic locations and thrilling twists in ?Missing?.

    Star India GM, senior VP, English channels Saurabh Yagnik said, "It has been our constant endeavor to bring new Hollywood shows to India to match their date and time in the US. As leaders in the category, we are proud to host the world television premiere of Hollywood?s biggest show Missing in India, four days before the US. This initiative is bound to reaffirm our commitment to our viewers and boost Star World?s perception as the ultimate destination for fresh Hollywood shows."

    The broadcaster is using the digital medium for marketing activities.

  • Increasing trend in telecast of violent, vulgar or obscene matter in TV

    NEW DELHI: Despite self-regulation having been put in place by the news and general entertainment channels, 25 notices were issued by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry against various channels for showing excessive violence, vulgarity and obscenity during the current year 2011.

    This also shows an increase of depiction of violence, vulgarity and obscenity since 13 notices were issued in 2010, 15 in 2009 and 18 in 2008 against various channels.

    While the Advertising Standards Council of India (Asci) was asked to take action against various channels for vulgarity in the advertisements of Axe, Zatak and, Set Wet deodorants which asked the channels to withdraw the advertisements, the Ministry issued show cause notice in the remaining 22 cases during 2011.
     
    The Bindass channel was issued notices four times, including once for the series ‘Emotional Atyaachar‘ for which it had received a notice in 2010 and once for the series ‘Dadagiri‘ for which it had been issued notices in 2008 and 2009 as well for different episodes. Channel [V] was also issued notice twice for different programmes.

    News channels also came under the scanner, with notices being issued to Times Now, News 9, Sahara Samay, and P7. News 9 has been asked to run an apology scroll, while both Sahara Samay and P7 have already complied by running apology scrolls.

    Other channels issued notices include FTV, Sony, Star World, Fox Crime, Sony Pix, FX channel, Zee Trendz, People TV, NDTV Good Times, MTV, and TLC.

    In 11 cases during 2011, the matter is still under consideration. Interestingly, the notices against Times Now and Sony which are under consideration were for telecast of trailers of the film ‘Dirty Picture‘ which has since been commercially released with ‘A‘ certificate.

    In the other cases, advisories or warnings were issued or the channels were asked to run apology scrolls.
