Super Smashers beat Mark Waugh's team in Toon Cricket in Mumbai

MUMBAI: It was cricket as never seen before! More than 45,000 toon and cricket lovers in Mumbai gathered for the fifth edition of Cartoon Network’s Toon Cricket 2005. The result: Australia's Mark Waugh with Mark's Maniacs were defeated by 12 year old Devin Bhatia and his Super Smashers.

Team Super Smashers captained by Devin Bhatia comprised Scooby Doo, Johnny Bravo, Dee Dee, Jerry, Fred and Bob the Builder. Super Smashers claimed a victory over Mark’s Maniacs by logging an impressive 24 runs in three overs. Mark Maniacs, consisting of Mojo Jojo, Popeye, Olive Oyl, Tom, Dexter and Noddy.

The key moment of the match was when skipper Waugh distracted Johnny Bravo into his narcissist ways by flashing him a mirror resulting in Fred who was batting, with Johnny getting run out. The Super Smashers game was at stake in the last over where they needed two runs from the last ball, being bowled by none other than Waugh. Super Smashers’ captain, Devin saved the day by hitting Waugh for a four.

Spectators at the event also got a chance to win a lot of goodies by participating in the many interactive on-the-spot contests held during breaks and at the various sponsor stalls.

Being held for the fifth time, Toon Cricket is a unique combination of cartoons and cricket. Held at an international level with former Australian cricketer, Mark Waugh and former Pakistan skipper, Wasim Akram joining the battle for this year’s trophy, Toon Cricket 2005 celebrates the best spinners, batsmen and fielders from the world of toons, kids and international cricket on the field.
