Asianet gives away annual film awards

MUMBAI: Mammooty films had a ball at the 7th Asianet film awards. The actor bagged the best actor award for his role in the films Kazhcha and Vesham. Kazhcha, directed by Blessy, also won the best film award.

Mammooty had his two box office hits in Kazhcha and Vesham in 2004. Kazhcha even went on to become a blockbuster.

Meera Jasmine was given the best actress award for her role in Perumazhakkalam. While Kamal received the award for the best director or his film Perumazhakkalam.

Actors Dileep and Kavya Madhavan received special jury awards for their performances in Kathavaseshan and Perumazhakkalm, respectively. Innocent and Gopika won the best character artists awards for their performance in Vesham.

Other winners: T.A. Razak (best script - Perumazhakalam), Gireesh Puthenchery (best lyrics - Mambazhakalam), M. Jayachandran (best music - Perumazhakalam, Mambazhakalam), P. Jayachandran and Sujatha (best playback singers - Perumazhakalam and Mambazhakalam respectively ), Padmapriya (best new face - Kazhcha), Jassy Gift (popular singer), Master Yash (best child artiste - Kazhcha) and Prithviraj and Geethu Mohandas (special mention from the jury).

Actor Jagathy Sreekumar was honoured at the function for his contributions to the Malayalam cinema. The function was presided over by Asianet chairman Reji Menon. Entertainment programmes included performances by actresses Shobhana, Rambha and Rasika.

The channel will telecast the show in two parts: On 9 April at 4:30 pm to 9 pm and on 10 April at 3:30 pm to 8 pm.
