NEW DELHI: National Geographic Television (NGT), which supplies the core of NGC's programming, has won three Emmy Awards announced earlier this month.

National Geographic Television & Film (NGT&F) garnered three Emmy awards at the News and Documentary Emmy awards ceremony in New York City. This year's three News and Documentary Emmys bring National Geographic's Emmy total tally to an unprecedented 119 Emmy Awards over its 38 year history in television and film production.

National Geographic Television & Film had received a total of nine News and Documentary Emmy nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

National Geographic Explorer won two News and Documentary Emmys this year. Afghanistan Revealed won for outstanding individual achievement in a craft in news and documentary programming - cinematography. This marks the second year in a row Nat Geo has been awarded an Emmy in this category. Filmed a few years ago, the programme follows author Sebastian Junger and renowned photographer Reza through war-torn Afghanistan to capture one of the last interviews on film with Afghan resistance leader Ahmad Shad Massoud, months before his assassination.

Already awarded a Peabody this year, Haunt of the Hippo won an Emmy for outstanding individual achievement in a craft in news and documentary programming-- music and sound. The award-winning film is an intimate portrait of the cycle of life around the hippopotami of Mzima Springs, Kenya hosted by Boyd Matson. National Geographic Channel USA won an Emmy in the outstanding interview category for its interview with Ted Koppel for its series Inside Base Camp hosted by Tom Foreman and produced by NGT&F's Gil Pimentel.

Since its first television Special aired in 1965, National Geographic Television films have won over 800 industry awards, including Emmy Awards, and several Academy Award nominations, claims the channel. National Geographic Television is the winner of the prestigious Governor's Award, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' highest award.
