NEW DELHI: Zee English will telecast The Emmy, considered the Oscars for the television industry, live from Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles on 22 September.

As a run up to The Emmys, Zee English will air three half-hour specials The Emmys Red Carpet 2003 on 7, 14 and the 21 September 2003 at 8.30 pm profiling the programmes, actors, actresses nominated in various categories.

A press release says that former Miss India Gul Panang will host the specials.

According to Zee English business head Ashvini Yardi, , "We have worked out strategic tie ups with various media partners to make The Emmy award ceremony more interactive with greater audience participation and involvement, Indiatimes being one of them . Viewers can win big prizes by entering The Emmys contest poll on Indiatimes."

Following the telecast of the Emmys, the forthcoming quarter has in store more attractions in the form of new shows nominated for The Emmys being aired on Zee English.

The new shows scheduled to be aired on Zee English include Friends (44 Emmy nominations) Curb your Enthusiasm (10 Emmy nominations), Will and Grace ( 12 Emmy nominations), The West Wing ( 15 Emmy nominations ) and Six feet Under(16 Emmy nominations ).

The release adds that the telecast of The Emmy Award ceremony is yet another endeavour by the channel to provide quality programming to cater to its audiences evolving tastes and preferences, especially as competition in this category is Star World.

The Emmy Awards recognise excellence within various areas of the television industry. The awards are a symbol of peer recognition from over 12,000 members of the Academy. Each member casts a ballot for the category of competition in his or her field of expertise.
