CBS to use tape delay for the Grammy Awards

MUMBAI: The controversy over the Janet Jackson episode at the Super Bowl last Sunday has led to CBS trying to clean up its act. The broadcaster has announced that it plans to enhance its ability to edit out any inappropriate and unexpected events from the broadcast of the 46th Annual Grammy Awards.

The event airs on 8 February. In India the awards will air on Star World on 9 February early in the morning.

CBS issued a release stating that the enhancement would include the ability to delete both inappropriate audio and video footage from the broadcast. Using a five second delay, CBS has traditionally employed procedures that allow only for the elimination of inappropriate audio. This new enhancement will accomplish both. The precise length of the new delay has yet to be determined.

This year's award ceremony will be produced in association with Cossette Productions. Reports indicate that the broadcaster may ask that Jackson and Justin Timberlake be banned from the Grammys if the network concludes that the musicians fully intended to give Jackson the extra exposure on Sunday.

Timberlake has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and is scheduled to perform come Sunday. Jackson is supposed to present an award
