Veteran Writer Bhishm Sahni passes away

MUMBAI: Bhishm Sahni noted writer of the acclaimed television series Tamas passed away on Friday 11 July at New Delhi after a heart ailment. He was 82.
On Thursday, Sahni was admitted to Escorts hospital in New Delhi where he breathed his last after suffering a massive stroke. According to the doctors, the novelist passed away around 7 pm following a massive cerebral infarction.


Brother of well-known actor Balraj Sahni, Bhishm Sahni had authored several novels including Tamas, which fetched him the prestigious Sahitya Academy award in 1978. The story set in the 1947 Partition times, delved into human relationships and sensibilities. It earned more popularity after a television serial based on it was made starring among others Om Puri and Deepa Shahi.
