Intelsat officially opens its mountainside teleport

MUMBAI: New addition to Intelsat's terrestrial network, the mountainside teleport located near Hagerstown, Maryland, was officially launched on 24 September by Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich.
Launched to further expanding its global uplink and downlink capabilities, the teleport will be an essential link for customers utilizing Intelsat's GlobalConnexSM Solutions. A bundled portfolio of hybrid services, GlobalConnexSM Solutions delivers end-to-end voice, data, Internet and video solutions via Intelsat satellites to customers around the world, says a company release.
A leading Internet service provider in Turkey, SuperOnline is the first customer to use Mountainside Teleport's facilities to connect its customers to the U.S. Internet backbone. SuperOnline delivers Internet applications such as web browsing, e-mail and file transfer to its customers in Turkey via satellite, bypassing the congestion which can be inherent in inter-continental terrestrial-only networks.
Says Intelsat Global Service Corporation president Kevin Mulloy, "Intelsat's GlobalConnexSM Solutions provide value by allowing our customers to rapidly expand to new locations and offer diverse services via the Intelsat network. The completion and operation of this teleport significantly adds to our offerings and allows our customers even more flexibility to choose solutions that meet their business requirements."
