'Urmila' to debut on DD 1

MUMBAI: For starters, the show has nothing to do with the actress shedding tears at the Wagh border. An afternoon soap Urmila, which debut on the pubcaster on 15 December, is a story about a perfect homemaker.
Produced by Tarun Rati, directed by Bhagwan Yadav, the serial will be telecast on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 2 pm on the National Channel (DD-1).
With addition of Urmila, the new launches count for this week on DD 1 rounds up to five. Following the current trend of a strong women oriented plot, the protagonist Urmila lead a picture perfect life till she learns that her husband has been leading a double life.
Starring Surendra Pal, Adi Irani, Gajendra Chauhan and Shilpa Kataria Singh, the story charts Urmila's struggle to take control over her life, live with dignity and make an identity of her own.
Story starts with Urmila and her family anxiously awaiting the return of her husband and his brother, after eight years in America. But when Urmila's brother-in-law lands up home alone, it leaves a lot of questions unanswered. It is then that Urmila learns that her husband has a second wife and a son in America. Deeply hurt, she leaves home and starts life afresh.
Interestingly, all the five new shows Agneepath, Kuntee, Kyamaat, Roshni and Urmila have a women centric, emotional saga as the core. Though television is essentially a women oriented medium, DD programmes usually focused on the strong women rather than getting into family drama mode. But seems like the pubcaster is all set to go the mainstream entertainment way.
Lets see how the trend fares on DD.
