USA Network to roll out new initiatives for covering US Open

MUMBAI: USA Network, an American cable network, will cover the US Open tennis tournament for the 22nd time. The event, which kicks off on 29 August, will air in India on Ten Sports.

USA Network will conduct two initiatives - Mac-Phone and Point Tracker for the third time. Mac-Phone, conducted during rain delays, allows tennis fans to call former tennis player turned TV commentator John McEnroe live on the air and ask questions.

USA Network will also incorporate Point Tracker into its coverage of matches in Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, providing viewers a better look at close line calls. This is the third straight year USA has utilised Hawkeye ball-tracking technology. USA Network had introduced the technology at the 2003 US Open and earned an Emmy nomination for technical innovation. Point Tracker is sponsored by IBM.

NBC Universal Sports president Ken Schanzer says, "The totality of USA Network's live US Open coverage is the most comprehensive of any tennis event by any US cable or broadcast television network. We are looking forward to providing tennis fans the comprehensive and entertaining coverage of America's Grand Slam that they have come to expect from us over the last two decades."

Ted Robinson and John McEnroe enter their 14th year together as USA Network's lead US Open broadcast team. McEnroe is a four-time US Open singles champion, has earned two Emmy Award nominations for his tennis commentary, and is a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Also Fellow Hall-of-Fame Tracy Austin and four-time Grand Slam champion Jim Courier will also provide analysis.
