Raj looking to tap Malayalam market

MUMBAI: The ultra competitive scenario of television channels in the South shows no signs of letting up.

An important regional player, Raj TV, is currently in expansion mode. Hot on the heels of announcing plans for a Telugu channel in March for which it will invest around Rs. 1000 million, Raj is geared to launch a Malayalam channel shortly thereafter. A PTI report, however, states that as of now, no date has been fixed for the Malayalam channel launch.

As reported last month by Indiantelevision.com, Raj TV will sport a new logo from today and a new signature tune, along with a slew of new programming initiatives. Cinevistaas, AVM and Telephoto Entertainment are among those that are slated to produce new shows for the revamped Raj TV. Like Sun TV, Raj is also looking to tap the lucrative NRI pay TV markets of the US and UK.

Raj's proposed Telugu channel will be a news based channel and uplinking will be done from the teleport facilities it has in Chennai.
