Sony bags the telecast rights for 'Devdas'

MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television has acquired telecast rights of the much talked about blockbuster of the year -Devdas.
Sony announced on Saturday that it has acquired the rights for a period of five years to air the 'most lavish' feature film ever produced, besides Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Yeh Hai Jalwa, Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaye, and the recently released Mr & Mrs Iyer.
The sheer magnitude of the movie in terms of the monetary investment and the famous star cast ensured its nomination into the Oscars as the Indian entry this year.
After last year's Lagaan, this is the second mainstream movie to qualify as India's entry. Coincidentally Sony had earlier bagged the right to air Lagaan as well.
Both SET India Private Limited Chief Executive Officer Kunal Dasgupta and Cricket, Movies and Events channel of SET- MAX Executive Vice President and Business Head Rajat Jain are exuberant about the acquisitions. "With Lagaan ,K3G,and Devdas, the most expensive Hindi film in the history of Indian cinema and the most successful film of 2002, we have made a clean sweep of the biggest blockbusters in the marketplace", says Jain.
