Australian Open extends deal with IBM

MUMBAI: The first tennis Grand Slam of the year the Australian Open has announced that IBM has extended its role as the official information technology and Internet supplier to the Australian Open until 2005.
In India, the annual January event airs on Star Sports. IBM provides the tournament equipment and services for results and statistics collection. It also supplies information and graphics to television broadcasters and media; distributes tournament data through information terminals located around Melbourne Park; and designs, develops and hosts the official Web site, www.ausopen.org.
Explaining the strategy of the computer giant IBM (Australia and New Zealand) CEO Phillip Bullock said: "IBM is impressed with the Australian Open’s strategic focus and desire to extend its reach beyond Australia and into the Asia-Pacific region."
