Wortsman named president of Univision TV Group; Stuart EVP & director sales

MUMBAI: US based, Spanish media company Univision Communications Inc, has named ,Michael D Wortsman, as president of its Univision Television Group.Wortsman was previously co-president of Univision Television Group.

The company also announced the appointment of Charles Stuart as executive vice president and director of sales for Univision Television Group.Stuart will remain based in New York and report to Wortsman.

Previously, Stuart, was executive vice president, national sales. In his new role, Stuart will maximise sales efforts at the 62 stations in the Univision and TeleFutura Television groups.

"Mike is a veteran media executive and has been instrumental in expanding Univision Television Group into a leading force in the industry today. Under Mike's leadership, we expect to see great improvements in sales at the station group and are delighted that he has agreed to take on these additional responsibilities," said, Univision Communications Inc president and chief operating officer, Ray Rodriguez.

Commenting on Stuart's appointment, Wortsman said, "We are delighted to recognise Charlie's significant contributions to Univision through this promotion. We have a great deal of confidence that his professional management style, industry contacts and impressive sales and marketing experience will drive sales for our company."

Prior to becoming CO-president of the Univision Station Group, Wortsman, served as executive vice president of corporate development for Univision Television Group from 1993 to 1996. Previously, he was vice president and station manager for KUSI-TV in San Diego. While in Washington, D.C. from 1988 to 1991, Wortsman served as vice president and general sales manager for Fox owned and operated station WTTG-TV.

On the other hand, prior to serving as executive vice president, national sales, Stuart was senior vice president of national spot sales for all Univision, TeleFutura and Puerto Rico owned, operated and affiliated stations and directed the National Research and Marketing and Marketing and Business Development groups.

Earlier, he had served as general sales manager for KDTV-Channel 14. Stuart began his career in broadcasting 26 years ago as a media research analyst at KTTV, Metromedia in Los Angeles, followed by a stint at KTVU, the Cox Communications-owned Fox affiliate in San Francisco.
