Sunil Lulla quits Sony, joining Times as CEO of business news channel

MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television India executive vice president Sunil Lulla has resigned. He is set to join the Times Group as chief executive news and business affairs channels.

Confirming the development, Lulla said his last working day with Sony would be 28 February and he would take up his new assignment some time in March.

The move comes just over a month after Lulla was shifted out from his position as business head of flagship channel SET to a new portfolio as head of the digital & licensing business and new initiatives.

Says Lulla of his new assignment, "It's a domain I haven't ventured into earlier and it gives me an opportunity to learn and also bring my experiences into this space. The leadership role is very stimulating and I look forward to this new challenge."

Times of India is planning to create a separate division for its news channel venture. It is this division that Lulla will head.

Apurva Purohit will continue to be the overall charge as the COO of the Times group's non-fiction lifestyle & entertainment channel Zoom. And also the spiritual channel Ananda, which is now slated to start beaming only after the group's business news channel has launched.
