MUMBAI: Inspired by the good show Bollywood has put up this year, the Hero Honda 12th Annual Star Screen Awards 2006 is being planned in a larger scale. Saluting the city of dreams, the award show has been themed 'Amchi Mumbai'.

Star India will kick off its 2006 event calendar with the award show on Star Plus in January. The five champions from the Great Indian Laughter Challenge will host the awards.

Mumbai being the theme for this year's awards, the whole concept of the awards ceremony is based on every minute aspect of the city.

Right from the set, which reflects various monumental landmarks of Mumbai including, India Gate, Victoria Terminus, Sidhivinayak temple, to the breathtaking performances, all have a touch of Mumbai to it. Western Mumbai's NSE Grounds will be the venue of show.

The popular comedians will bring out the essence of Mumbai through certain interesting characters, which are synonymous to a typical Mumbai scenario. The roles they play: Navin Prabhakar represents a coolie, Ahsaan Qureshi is a traffic hawaldar who wants to become a choreographer, Bhagwant Mann is a bhelpuriwala, Raju Shrivastav is a Bihari taxi driver and Sunil Pal is a black marketeer.

Speaking about Star Plus' performance on the event front, the channel filled its calendar with about 10 annual properties this year. This includes Star Parivar Awards, Rang Barse Dandiya Dhoom Star Parivar, Kumkum event and IIFA. On an average, Star Plus' awards properties delivered a rating of 9 TVR as per Tam.
