Star Movies gets movie bonanza to build the Oscar hype

MUMBAI: Nothing says that Oscar awards are around the corner like movie bonanza. And Star Movie has the exact idea.

The English movie channel has started off the countdown to biggest Hollywood awards with a movie line up.

In a bid to top its last years performance, where in movies like A beautiful mind, Jurassic Park 3, Bridget Jones's Diary, My big fat Greek wedding, Unbreakable, Moulin Rouge, Bend it like Beckhan, and Woman on top were showcase, 2004 line up include Signs, Ice Age, Original Sin, Minority Report, Monster's Ball, Bandits, A view from the top, and Hart's War.

The movie channel has already started of the year with Made in India festival. Starting 11 January, every Sunday 9 pm, the channel airs English films, addressing the Indian diaspora, says a company release.

An alternative to the regular formula films, the channel has movies including Deepa Mehta's Hollywood Bollywood, Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, Dev Benegal's Spilit Wide Open, Jhankar Beats and Anita & Me on its list. Star's movie channel has also tied up with the local expresso chain, Barista to promote the blockbuster fare. 

The countdown to the most prestigious Hollywood event, The 76th Annual Academy Awards official begins with the Oscar fever airing in February. Star Movies will do a build-up to the big event by telecasting 20 Oscar winning and Oscar nominated titles every day, says the release.
