Star acquires 20% stake in Indonesia's ANTV

MUMBAI: Star has inked a deal with Indonesia's national network ANTV wherein it has acquired a 20 per cent stake in the company.

ANTV, which is owned by the family of Indonesia's chief economy minister Aburizal Bakrie, entered into this partnership to develop itself as a leading broadcaster in Indonesia.
 
 

Through the partnership, ANTV will be able to tap into Star's international expertise in television broadcasting and Star will assist ANTV to realise its objectives of developing its local Indonesian programming and production into a world class broadcasting standard.
 
 

According to a report put out by the International Herald Tribune, Star probably paid well below $20 million for the 20 per cent stake in ANTV.

ANTV was first aired in Lampung Province in 1993 and is now a national station with 19 relay stations that reach 85 per cent of the population.

PT. CMA Indonesia is the majority shareholder of the company. And it has currently a five per cent audience share from 180 million viewers in Indonesia. That is a 100 per cent jump in channel share in the last three years (2.5 to 5 per cent).
