MUMBAI: Nominations have been announced for the 47th edition of the music industry's most prestigious event The Grammy Awards.

The event takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, on 13 February. In India the show will air on Star World.

Diverse collaborations and multifaceted music makers, as well as new artists emerging in rock, country, pop, R&B and rap, are represented in this years nominations.

Rap star Kanye West earned 10 nominations. Meanwhile pop singers Alicia Keys and Usher earned eight nominations each. The late great Ray Charles posthumously received seven nominations. Alternative rock group Green Day received six nominations

Artistes competing for best album include Charles for Genius loves Company and Green Day's provocatively titled American Idiot

Song of the year nominees include Daughters by John Mayer, If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys and Jesus Walks by C. Smith and Kanye West.
