DD Metro to air dubbed Hollywood films

MUMBAI: If dubbing Hollywood blockbusters can work for the big screen why not the small screen. Star Gold was first off the blocks on this but national broadcaster Doordarshan is also going ahead with its own plans.

If all goes to plan, the new year will see DD Metro telecasting Hollywood films, dubbed in Hindi, every Sunday at 8 pm. The films will be telecast on a royalty basis and through an open bid process.

Media reports quoted DD director-general SY Quraishi as saying yesterday that the decision to show these films on DD Metro was taken on Wednesday after a meeting between him and National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) director Dipankar Mukhopadhyay.

Doordarshan has a corpus of around Rs 1100 million for films every year.
