WASHINGTON D.C.: CNN Headline News journalist Renay San Miguel received the Award of Merit from Carnegie Mellon University and the Newseum. His online cybersecurity columns, which were featured on the CNN Web site and the Headline News Web page last year were cited.

Carnegie Mellon and the Newseum established the awards this year to recognise journalists who have covered online security issues since 9/11.

San Miguel has over 24 years of journalism experience and is based in CNN's headquarters in Atlanta. He co-anchors with Kathleen Kennedy. During Operation Iraqi Freedom earlier this year San Miguel helped staff the CNN/US military desk. In that role, he interviewed CNN military analysts and outlined military operations using maps and satellite imagery.

San Miguel also participated in Headline News' coverage of Operation Enduring Freedom last year.
