MUMBAI: The business news channel CNBC-TV 18 has now employed Beehive Systems' tape-less digital video logging system - TxLog. The system will now replace the analog VTR-based logging system so far in use by the channel to store a sizeable capacity of financial video/data.

The digital logging system will be used by CNBC-TV18 for storing video files showing visiting analysts forecasting market/financial trends. These files would then be made available for immediate access and retrieval by the journalists at TV18's portal moneycontrol.com, says a Beehive release.
According to the release, TxLog is a cost-effective solution for disk-based recording of video, text, and images that can be viewed on any standard PC using a web browser application like Internet Explorer. All recordings are segmented and indexed with metadata like time, place, channel and name attached automatically and are made available for remote browsing immediately.

The system allows multiple users to access the same video simultaneously as compared to analog tape-based storage where only one user can use a tape at one time, adds the release.

TxLog requires no quality check or maintenance as compared to VTR tapes that need constant maintenance, as data is prone to generational loss due to copying.

Besides these features, Beehive provided CNBC-TV 18 with a noteworthy customized feature, which will enable a moneycontrol.com journalist to view the video/file as well as type the report at the same time on the screen. This 'view' and 'report' feature is helpful for a journalist, as he would not have to go back and forth between the video and the report.

CNBC-TV18's technology head, Piyush Gupta said, "We replaced our analog tape-based system with Beehive's digital tape-based system as we were increasingly experiencing the operational and functional limitations of the analog system. The solution Beehive offered was meeting every requirement of a tape-less logging system - from storage to effortless access and retrieval to easy management to scalability. The superior compression used by TxLog offers a wide range of encoding bit rates, and hence provides greater flexibility to achieve the best possible combination of video quality and storage. To top it all, it's cost effective, which makes it an extremely win-win solution for CNBC-TV 18."

TxLog can be used in multiple scenarios depending upon the need of the broadcaster. Besides using it as a website content update solution as being used by CNBC-TV 18, it can also be used to log advertisements as an objective evidence of the ads displayed on air. Other usage is - monitoring the content/programmes of competitors by saving the whole programme and making it available on the PC, informs the release.

According to Beehive Systems' vice president business development, Ajay Pal Singh, "It's a matter of pride for us to be associated with CNBC TV18 for the third time now. We believe our digital storage system, TxLog will help CNBC-TV 18 equip its journalists with information at their fingertips and at the same time make the whole process of storing, preserving, moving and sharing content cost-effective and easy."

With rapid application of computer technology in the broadcast industry, there is suddenly an increased focus on content or "asset management". This is where Beehive's TxLog comes in as a solution that meets the customers' expectation of "information at the finger tips".
