UK kids channel CBBC enters the drama arena

MUMBAI: UK pubcaster BBC's kids channel CBBC is foraying into drama. It has commissioned a drama documentary from Hat Trick Productions on the July London bombings.

CBBC controller Alison Sharman and CBBC drama head Jon East, announced that they have commissioned the one-hour drama documentary which will tell the story of the 7/7 bombings told through the eyes of children.

Sharman said, "This breaks new territory for CBBC. It's both our first commission from Hat Trick and our first foray into drama documentary. Indeed - in terms of addressing such a sensitive issue via drama it's a first for any UK broadcaster.

"We are delighted that Mark Redhead - Hat Trick's Head of Drama and the producer of such acclaimed drama-docs as Bloody Sunday and The Murder of Stephen Lawrence - will help bring this difficult but vital material to our young audience."

It is expected that the film will transmit around the first anniversary of the London bombings.
