Disney's Raven wins NAACP Image Award yet again

MUMBAI: For the second consecutive year, Raven won an NAACP Image Award in the Outstanding Performance in the Youth/Children's Program category for her starring role on Disney Channel's That's So Raven.

The sitcom also airs on the ABC Television Network's ABC Kids, where it is the highest rated series across all key youth demographics. The 36th NAACP Image Awards ceremony, honoring individuals and projects that support positive images for people of color in arts and entertainment, was held on 19 March in Los Angeles.

Disney Channel Worldwide president Rich Ross said, "We're thrilled that the NAACP has honored Raven, an immensely talented young woman and that kids and tweens across the world have responded so positively to both her as a superstar and to That's So Raven, a series that imparts both comedy and messages of cultural diversity in a smart, modern, kid-friendly way."

Raven, who was in Washington DC at a personal appearance as part of Disney Consumer Products' launch of the That's So Raven apparel line, said, "I am always happy to represent the African-American community in a positive way and to be a role model for kids everywhere."

A gifted performer, Raven's knack for "physical comedy" has critics likening her to Lucille Ball. She also provides the voice of Monique in Disney's Kim Possible and the upcoming Disney's Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama and the singing voice of the Playground Monitor in an episode of the hit preschool series Higglytown Heroes for Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney block.

Raven starred in The Cheetah Girls a Disney Channel Original Movie that was basic cable's top rated movie of 2003 with kids aged 6-11 and tweens aged 9-14. The movie spawned the number two soundtrack for 2004 and best-selling DVDs.

That's So Raven is televised every weekday at 5 pm on Disney Channel.
