European 3-D graphics 'projects' for Star, TV Today

NEW DELHI: Capitalising on the needs of the Indian television news segment, Norway-based Vizrt Limited, the world's leading company in real-time 3-D graphics system for television, has tied up with TV Today Network and Star India for the launch of their respective news channels.

Vizrt, which has bagged four contracts from Indian news channels in the last two years, has managed to garner Rs 144 million in sales revenue from the Indian market. Besides working on Headlines Today, the re-launched Star News and Sahara TV, Vizrt had earlier supplied the graphics software and design guidance for the launch of Headlines Today's Hindi language sister channel channel Aaj Tak.

According to Vizrt chief executive officer and president Bjarne Berg, "Vizrt captured contracts with the four largest television stations (Sahara and TV Today Hindi channel earlier) in India the last two years. That gives us by far a leading role in one of the biggest markets in the world. We believe we will continue to dominate the Indian market as well as other huge markets in Asia like Japan and Korea where Vizrt is gaining a larger market share all the time."

Vizrt develops, markets and supports a complete range of scalable, graphics-based software systems for the real-time creation, management and delivery of visual content for television broadcast, public display, feature films and the Web. Vizrt's products include real time on-air 3D systems, virtual studio systems and global 3D map databases.

The company's tools deliver improved workflow and productivity with a consistent high quality on-air look. The company has a strong reputation for user-friendly software, timesaving template graphics linked to Vizrt's own asset management and automation system. Vizrt systems are frequently used in News, Sports, Financial, weather and other programs where speed of graphical rendering is paramount.

According to Vizrt, Star News purchased a complete Vizrt real-time 3-d graphics and content management system for its main facility in Mumbai, while contract with TV Today is to provide the world's most advanced content management software that will control the on screen look and feel of Headlines Today.

The European company has stated that the deal with Star, last of the four assignments signed earlier this year, is worth Rs 19.2 million.

On the deal with TV Today Network, a release from Vizrt says, "The system delivered from Vizrt will feature an extension to TV Today's existing Viz|content pilot and Viz|artist and Viz|engine systems, adding the new media sequencer content automation system for the final step to air."
