'Desperate Housewives' lead Golden Globe TV nominees

MUMBAI: The year of the Desperate Housewives, it is turning out to be on American television. All four of the main cast of Desperate Housewives are up for the coveted trophy in nominations for the 63rd Golden Globe Awards announced Tuesday.

Apart from the four leads' nominations in the Best Actress - Comedy Series category, the ABC hit also earned a nomination for Best Comedy Series. Also nominated for best comedy series are two HBO shows, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage, and three newcomers -- Weeds, NBC's My Name Is Earl and UPN's Everybody Hates Chris.

How successful a year it has been for Disney's ABC network is also reflected in the nominations Housewives and three other hit shows Commander in Chief, Grey's Anatomy and Lost have received. All three have been nominated for Best Drama Series. They are competing against Fox's Prison Break and HBO's Rome.

There are nominations for Best Actor - Drama Series to Patrick Dempsey for Grey's Anatomy and Matthew Fox in Lost. There is also a Best Supporting Actor - Series, Miniseries or Movie nomination for Naveen Andrews in Lost and Donald Sutherland for Commander in Chief.

Additionally, there is a Best Supporting Actress - Series, Miniseries or Movie nomination for Sandra Oh in Grey's Anatomy.

For Eva Longoria, who was snubbed in last year's nominations, it was second time lucky as she joined her fellow Housewives Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman.
The fifth nominee in the category Mary-Louise Parker who plays a different kind of suburban mom in Showtime's Weeds.

Housewives star Huffman had another reason to celebrate as she was also nominated for her work in the movie Transamerica.

Still, one thing that remained unchanged was HBO securing more Golden Globe award nominations than any other television network --- 17. This including one in the best drama category for Rome, which is facing off against ABCs Commander in Chief, Lost and Greys Anatomy and Foxs Prison Break.
