'American Idol' Underwood inks $1 mn deal with Arista Records

MUMBAI: The newest American Idol Carrie Underwood, who was crowned last week, has signed a $1 million recording contract with Arista Records.

Underwood first single, Inside Your Heaven, will be released on 14 June.

Like the Idols who came before her -- Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino, as well as second-place finisher Clay Aiken --Underwood's career will be guided by music guru Clive Davis.

Davis will also produce her first full-length album in association with Simon Fuller and 19 Recordings Limited.

The 22-year-old college senior said in an appearance on CBS' The Early Show that she would remain true to her country roots on her upcoming album. She hails from Oklahoma.
