SC again postpones cricket case to next week

NEW DELHI: Cases related to cricket rights and elections of office-bearers to the Indian cricket board could not be taken up by the Supreme Court today. The next date for hearing has been slotted for next week.

According to information available, at least two cricket cases, which were slated to be heard by the apex court today, could not be taken up for reasons not known immediately.

In a case that holds interest for Zee Telefilms as well as the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), the court has to decide whether a Madras high court order nullifying elections of office-bearers to the Board is valid or not. The BCCI had appealed against the high court order and won a conditional stay on the ruling from the apex court.

Last week, the apex court had given some indications that the cricket cases may be settled soon. It had conveyed to the BCCI that till a Constitutional bench delivers it verdict, the Board should not take any decision on the telecast rights of cricket matches that remain after the Pakistan series comes to an end.
