Kerala HC permits other state lotteries

BANGALORE: After Kerala government deciding to resume the state-run lottery, a division bench of the Kerala High Court comprising of chief justice B Subhahshan Reddy and justice A K Basheer has given some relief to other state lotteries that have paid sales tax as on date of the state government's ban on the sale of all lotteries including its own which became effective on 27 January.

The court has now allowed them to sell lotteries and hold their draws on the scheduled dates.

While disposing off the appeal filed by the State of Nagaland and an agency of the Bhutan And Sikkim lotteries which contended that because of the sale and draw of lotteries for which they had paid sales tax could not be held as per schedule on account of the ban, the court made it clear that the police could take action if there was any violation of the court order.

In the meantime Kerala government has withdrawn all police cases against dealers.
