Two Indian films win laurels at Dubai fest

MUMBAI: Two Indian films Rohit Pandey-directed short film Mehfuz and Anand Patwardhan‘s documentary Jai Bhim Comrade have made the country proud by being honoured at the recently concluded 8th Dubai International Film Festival.

While the Anurag Kahsyap film has won the second prize in Muhr AsiaAfrica shorts section, while Parwardhan‘s film got a special mention in the Muhr AsiaAfrica Documentary section.

Other awards are as follows:

The Susan Youssef-directed film Habibi won the best film award in the Muhr Arab Feature, Al Juma Al Akheira (The Last Friday) of the UAE won the Special Jury Prize in the Muhr Arab Feature category.

While Ali Suliman won the best actor award for Al Juma Al Akheira, Maisa Abd Elhadi won the award for the best actress in the Muhr Arab Feature category.
The first prize in the Muhr Arab Documentary was bagged by the Lebanon-UAE co-production Sector Zero, ICI, On Noie Les Algerins - 17 Octobre 1961 (Here We Drown Algerians - October 17th, 1961) won the special jury prize in the same category.

France‘s Sur La Route Du Paradis (The Road To Paradise) won the first prize in the Muhr Arab Short category, another film from the country Bruleurs (Burners) won a special mention. Iraq‘s Ard Al Abtal (Land Of The Heroes) won the second prize in the category.

The awards were announced at the conclusion function on Wednesday.
