Film on cricketer Imran Khan set to release soon

MUMBAI: The transition of former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan from a cricketer to a politician is the subject of a UK-based independent filmmaker Faisal Aman Khan’s soon to release film Kaptaan.

The film, based on Khan‘s life following the end of his cricket career, recreates scenes of major incidents such as his arrest at Punjab University in Lahore and his hunger strike while in jail.

Aman Khan said that he hit upon the idea of making this film two years ago after he graduated from film school. Accordingly, he met the Pakistani ex-captain several times during the research phase of the project to get his endorsement.

Initially, the cricketer was reluctant saying that it was more important to focus on other aspects of the country. Finally, Aman Khan ‘s persistence paid of in convincing him.

The director selected a local model, Abdul Mannan, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the cricketer to play the title role. Saeeda Imtiaz, a Pakistani-American model based in New York, plays the female lead.

The film, currently in post-production, will be ready for release this fall though its producers are tight-lipped about the scheduled release date, it is understood.
