Eros’ film to be shot in Fiji

MUMBAI: The filming of Eros and Next Gen Films‘ 3G, to be shot in the Fiji Islands shortly, will have a multiplying effect on the Fiji economy.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum feels the shoot of the film in the island is a great opportunity for his country. He was speaking at the launch of the film, a thriller based on mobile telecommunications.

According to Khaiyum, numerous jobs have been created for locals including a crew of 40 who will assist the production team on the sets and another seven Fijians who will also play roles in the film.

The shooting of the film, directed Vikram Rajani, will begin by the end of May, said acting chief executive of the Fiji Audio Visual Commission (FAVC) Florence Swamy. The 30-day shoot will be held mostly in the Western Division with a few scenes in and around Sigatoka and a couple in Suva.

The film will cost around seven million Fiji dollars (US $4 million) and the shoot will begin by the end of May. Two more films under the same production with a joint budget of around 14 million Fiji dollars (US $8 million) will be shot in Fiji soon.

The films are expected to be released in at least 700 to 800 screens in India and are going to be distributed to countries worldwide, according to the producers.

The lead roles in the film would be played by renowned Neil Nitin Mukesh and fashion model and actress Sonal Chauhan.

Meanwhile, the local government has announced a rebate scheme of 47 per cent to attract filmmakers to the island nation as this would be a great opportunity for locals.
