Yahoo! India offers users 1GB storage

MUMBAI: Yahoo! Mail today announced plans to upgrade its storage capacity for its free users worldwide to one gigabyte (1GB). The global roll-out will begin in late April. Yahoo! Mail users from India on www.yahoo.co.in will be also upgraded simultaneously with the rest of the world to 1 GB of free storage.

Yahoo! Mail has also expanded its suite of security tools with virus cleaning for free, from Norton AntiVirus™, in addition to the virus scanning already offered.

“Beginning next month, people can enjoy 1GB of storage for free and take comfort in the fact that Yahoo! Mail continues to protect the privacy and security of their inboxes,” said Yahoo! Mail vice president Andy Spillane. “We know that people are using their Yahoo! Mail accounts to send and store more attachments, photos and important messages than ever before. By providing 1GB of storage for free, we continue with our eight year tradition of making Yahoo! Mail an even more essential part of people’s lives,” adds Spillane.

“The announcement to provide 1 GB of free storage along with even powerful security tools to protect inboxes from spam is another feather in Yahoo! Mail’s cap. India occupies a very special space for Yahoo’s global scheme of operations. Our endeavor has always been to provide our Indian users with continued innovations and product enhancements.” said Yahoo! India country general manager Neville Taraporewalla.

The 1GB storage upgrade represents an increase of more than four times the 250 megabytes (MB) of space that Yahoo! Mail users currently enjoy. Yahoo also offers consumers 20MB attachment limits, along with Spam Guard, AddressGuard™ and numerous additional features.
