MUMBAI: There is more to a great meal than what meets the plate, and Firstpost is setting out to uncover the stories behind the spread. The news platform has announced the launch of International Foodie, a new food show hosted by British presenter Joshua Barnes, which will premiere on 17 October and air every weekend at 10 am.

The show will take viewers inside some of India’s most fascinating dining destinations, exploring the people, personalities and culinary secrets that make them stand out. Rather than simply sampling signature dishes, Barnes will look beyond the menu to understand how restaurants build their reputations, preserve their traditions and become part of a city’s cultural identity.

Presented under Flaunt, Firstpost’s premium luxury vertical, International Foodie will bring an outsider’s perspective to India’s food scene. The programme aims to look beyond the hype surrounding popular restaurants and examine the heritage, craft and ideas that give their food a story worth telling.

From meeting the chefs and visionaries behind the kitchen doors to discovering the techniques that go into signature dishes, Barnes will investigate what makes each establishment tick. The series will also explore how particular dishes become synonymous with a restaurant and how the people and traditions behind them help keep its legacy alive.

Food, after all, can tell a story that extends well beyond the dining table. A restaurant’s identity can be shaped by its history, the people who built it and the cultural influences that continue to inform its menu. International Foodie will examine these connections, exploring the intersection of food, power, history and culture to understand why certain dining destinations become institutions.

Commenting on the launch, Firstpost chief content officer Binoy Prabhakar said food offers a revealing way to understand a culture. He said the programme would go beyond the plate to explore the people, histories and ideas behind India’s most iconic dining destinations, with Barnes bringing an international perspective to their craft, character and cultural significance.

The show’s approach also puts the spotlight on the details diners may rarely get to see. Behind a restaurant’s best-known dish could be a distinctive technique, a long-standing tradition or the vision of a chef who has helped shape its reputation. By asking questions that might otherwise go unasked, Barnes will attempt to uncover these lesser-known stories and offer viewers a different way of looking at familiar food destinations.

For Firstpost, the launch adds a food-focused programme to Flaunt’s premium lifestyle offering. Instead of treating restaurants merely as places to eat, International Foodie will explore them as spaces where culinary traditions, individual ambition and cultural history come together.

International Foodie premieres on 17 October, with new episodes scheduled every weekend at 10 am. The series promises to take viewers beyond the first bite, serving up a closer look at the stories that make India’s food culture distinctive.
