Salman Khan-hosted season becomes platform’s biggest reality show launch after September 6 premiere
MUMBAI: Bigg Boss has kicked off with a bang, and the numbers suggest viewers have already checked in for the drama. Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20 has delivered the biggest opening day ever for a reality show on JioHotstar following its September 6 premiere on JioHotstar and COLORS.
The milestone season, hosted by Salman Khan, marks the 20th edition of one of India’s most recognisable reality franchises and has turned its return into a major audience event. The new season comes with a ‘Tathas-Two’ theme, an ‘Extra Jeevan Daan’ twist and a brand-new house, adding fresh hooks to a format audiences have followed for years.
The grand premiere brought back the familiar Bigg Boss spectacle, with Salman setting the tone before contestants entered the house and the season’s first rivalries, alliances and unpredictable dynamics began taking shape.
The cast brings together personalities from different industries, with their appearances already generating conversations inside the house and across social media.
Alok Jain, Head Hindi & English Entertainment Business, JioStar (Streaming, TV & Studios), said the record launch demonstrated the franchise’s continuing connection with audiences after two decades.
For Salman Khan, the latest milestone carries a personal significance too. Having hosted 16 seasons, he said reaching Season 20 and seeing it open as the biggest reality show launch on JioHotstar was “overwhelming” and a proud moment, while crediting the audience for sustaining the show’s journey.
Deepak Dhar, Founder and Group CEO of Banijay Asia and Endemol Shine India, said the franchise’s appeal was not only its scale but its unpredictability. He said Season 20 was designed to keep viewers guessing about what comes next.
The milestone season also arrives with a sizeable roster of commercial partners.
