Sony tipped to raise PlayStation 5 game prices in India
Report says first-party PS5 titles may cost Rs 200 more; existing pre-orders unaffected
MUMBAI: Game on, wallets out. Buying a new PlayStation title in India could soon become a little more expensive, with reports suggesting Sony is preparing to increase the prices of its first-party PS5 games on the PlayStation Store.
According to a report by High Chaos Run, the revised pricing is expected to come into effect from July 10, 2025, with several Sony-published titles set to see a Rs 200 increase.
If implemented, Death Stranding 2, currently priced at Rs 4,999, would rise to Rs 5,199, while titles such as Astro Bot, presently listed at Rs 3,999, would reportedly increase to Rs 4,199.
Sony has not officially announced the price revision or disclosed the reason behind the reported move. However, similar increases introduced recently in Brazil and Turkey were attributed to challenging market conditions and fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, factors that could also be influencing pricing in India.
The report suggests existing customers who have already pre-ordered upcoming Sony titles, including Ghost of Yotei, will continue to receive their copies at the original Rs 4,999 price. Only new pre-orders placed after the revised pricing comes into effect are expected to reflect the higher rates.
The reported increase follows Sony’s recent hike in the price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in India. The console’s price was quietly raised from Rs 44,990 to Rs 49,990, mirroring price revisions introduced in several international markets, including Europe, Australia and New Zealand, where Sony cited economic pressures and currency volatility.
If the latest report proves accurate, it would mark another step in Sony’s broader strategy of revising regional pricing amid rising operating costs and shifting exchange rates. For Indian gamers, however, it means the next blockbuster adventure may come with a slightly steeper price tag than expected.
Sony is yet to issue an official statement confirming the reported changes.
