Pinkvilla names Vivek Mohan Sharma as chief executive officer
MUMBAI: Pinkvilla has handed the reins to Vivek Mohan Sharma, appointing him chief executive officer at a moment when the entertainment platform, now firmly under the Flipkart Group umbrella, is plotting its next big leap.
Sharma arrives with a résumé that spans over two decades across media and entertainment, digital platforms, telecom and financial services, a genuinely rare mix for a top media job. Most recently, he was business head for youth, music and English at JioStar, where he ran the portfolio across television and digital, including some of the country’s biggest youth properties at MTV.
Before that, Sharma spent over five years at Mirchi, holding senior positions including head of digital content business and regional director for west and central India. He is credited with driving growth across key markets and later led Mirchi’s push into digital audio and video, a period that sharpened his instincts for where content consumption was headed.
His earlier stints read like a masterclass in cross-sector versatility. Sharma worked at Idea Cellular, Deutsche Bank and ICICI Bank, building expertise in consumer behaviour and monetisation long before he pivoted fully into media. That foundation in banking and telecom, unusual for a media chief executive, gives him a sharper commercial lens on audience economics and revenue strategy.
Pinkvilla, in its announcement, was unambiguous about what it expects. The company has evolved from an entertainment platform into a broader media and consumer brand, and Sharma’s mandate is to build on that foundation, chase new opportunities and deepen audience connections across platforms.
For a company at an inflection point, backed by Flipkart’s scale and looking to expand its footprint, Sharma’s blend of content strategy, brand building and hard commercial experience looks like exactly the combination Pinkvilla needs to write its next chapter.
