MS Dhoni invests in SolarSquare, joins rooftop solar firm as brand ambassador
Cricket icon backs residential solar company as it plans expansion after $53 million funding
MUMBAI: Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has invested in residential rooftop solar company SolarSquare through his family office, Midas Deals, while also signing on as the company’s brand ambassador.
The investment forms part of SolarSquare’s recently announced $53 million Series C funding round and marks Dhoni’s latest bet on a fast-growing consumer sector. The partnership comes as residential rooftop solar gains momentum across India, driven by rising electricity costs and growing demand for clean energy solutions.
SolarSquare currently serves more than 50,000 households across 29 cities, offering an end-to-end rooftop solar solution that includes consultation, installation, financing, monitoring and after-sales service. The company aims to simplify the transition to solar power for homeowners looking to reduce long-term energy costs.
For Dhoni, the investment aligns with his preference for backing businesses focused on long-term value creation and sustainable growth.
SolarSquare, investor and brand ambassador, Mahendra Singh Dhoni said, “For me, this is much bigger than investing in a company. It’s about investing in India’s future. Energy security and clean energy are priorities that will define India’s next decade, and residential solar has an important role to play. What gave me the confidence to come on board was the founders’ commitment to building for the long term. That’s why I am excited to join the SolarSquare mission as both an investor and brand ambassador.”
The company sees Dhoni’s association as a strong endorsement of its ambition to make rooftop solar more accessible to Indian households while building greater consumer trust in the category.
SolarSquare, co-founder and chief executive officer, Shreya Mishra said, “We are honoured to welcome MS Dhoni as an investor and brand ambassador at SolarSquare. Over two decades, he has held the trust and expectations of a billion Indians and that is exactly the benchmark of trust we want to build with our customers. He is also someone who cares deeply about India and the climate, and genuinely believes in what we are building at SolarSquare.”
Following its latest funding round, SolarSquare plans to expand into 30 to 40 additional cities, strengthen its technology platform, broaden financing options and invest further in customer experience and service infrastructure. With fresh capital and one of India’s most recognisable sporting icons on board, the company is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the country’s rapidly expanding residential rooftop solar market.
