MUMBAI: IndiGo Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of IndiGo, has invested in sovereign artificial intelligence company Sarvam AI as part of its Series B funding round.

The investment builds on an existing partnership between the airline and Sarvam AI, with the companies having previously worked together on deploying AI technologies to improve passenger experiences, support airline employees and streamline operational workflows across IndiGo’s network.

The latest investment is aimed at deepening the integration of AI into IndiGo’s operations, combining the airline’s large-scale operational network with Sarvam AI’s technology stack, which includes voice and agentic AI systems.

Aviation presents a particularly large opportunity for enterprise AI, given the scale of customer interactions, time-sensitive processes and geographically distributed workforce involved in running an airline. The partnership is expected to focus on identifying areas where AI can automate processes and improve efficiency across the business.

Sarvam AI develops enterprise AI products along with its own training and inference infrastructure and frontier models. Its portfolio spans voice, text, computer vision and document processing, with its systems designed for high-volume enterprise applications.

The companies plan to connect Sarvam AI’s models and agentic infrastructure more closely with live airline operations. The aim is to build AI systems that can operate at the scale and speed required by the aviation sector, while supporting customer service, employee productivity and operational decision-making.

For IndiGo, the investment also provides a dedicated avenue to accelerate the adoption of locally developed AI technology across its operations. For Sarvam AI, the partnership offers access to one of India’s largest airline networks and a high-volume environment in which enterprise AI applications can be deployed at scale.

The investment comes as Indian companies increasingly look to home-grown AI capabilities for business applications, with sectors such as aviation offering a particularly demanding test bed for technologies that need to handle large volumes of interactions while operating with little room for delay.
