MUMBAI: Drawing on gaming talent, the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and Wacom India are bringing a creative contest to the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) in Chennai, with digital drawing devices worth over Rs 1 lakh and scholarships up for grabs.

Called Doodle Dash, the live drawing contest will take place at the IICT booth on 30 and 31 October. Participants will be given a drawing prompt and challenged to sketch their favourite gaming characters against the clock, with a twist in every round.

The initiative aims to bring gamers, artists, students and aspiring creators closer to professional digital drawing technology while encouraging them to explore careers in animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and extended reality.

The winners will receive Wacom devices, with the first-place prize being a Wacom Intuos Medium with Bluetooth. The runner-up will take home a One by Wacom Medium, while the third-place winner will receive a Wacom Intuos Small. Participants will also receive IICT merchandise and goodie bags.

Beyond the contest, IICT will offer 30 per cent scholarships on its two-year programmes, giving aspiring creators an opportunity to pursue training for careers across the animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and extended reality (AVGC-XR) sector.

“Doodle Dash brings together everything that makes the AVGC-XR ecosystem exciting: creativity, technology, gaming and the freedom to experiment,” said Indian Institute of Creative Technologies CEO Dr Vishwas Deoskar.

Through the collaboration with Wacom at IGDC, IICT wants to give young creators an opportunity to put their imagination to work, experience professional tools and understand how their creative interests can translate into careers, he added.

Wacom India senior director Rajiv Malik said the initiative would let aspiring creators experience the company’s pen technology in a fun, engaging and competitive setting.

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to nurturing India’s next generation of creative talent by connecting technology, education and industry, Malik said. He added that the initiative aimed to inspire more young people to explore their creativity and consider careers in gaming and the wider AVGC-XR ecosystem.

IICT, India’s National Centre of Excellence for AVGC-XR, focuses on developing industry-ready talent for the creative technology sector. Wacom, a global technology company, is known for its digital drawing tablets, pen displays and tools used by artists and designers.

IGDC brings together game developers, publishers, investors, technology companies, educators and gaming enthusiasts, providing a platform for industry networking and knowledge exchange.

With digital art, gaming and career opportunities sharing the same canvas, Doodle Dash aims to make creativity more than a contest. For budding artists, it could be the first sketch towards a professional future.
