Google launches Gemini 3.7 Flash with sharper coding and agentic capabilities

NEW DELHI: Google is giving its AI workhorse another upgrade, and this one comes with a cheaper price tag too.

Google has introduced Gemini 3.7 Flash, which it describes as its most intelligent Flash model yet for coding and AI agents. The release comes just three weeks after Gemini 3.6 Flash and is aimed at improving software engineering, knowledge work and web development workflows.

According to Google, Gemini 3.7 Flash delivers stronger performance on complex coding tasks such as debugging and issue resolution, while also improving first-pass code accuracy and production-ready code generation.

On the FrontierCode 1.1 Main benchmark, the model scored 43.6 per cent, compared with 34.4 per cent for Gemini 3.6 Flash. On DeepSWE v1.1, it scored 65.3 per cent against 49 per cent for its predecessor.

The model also claims gains in web development. Google said Gemini 3.7 Flash can create more functional layouts and feature-complete applications with fewer prompts, while better matching reference screenshots, images and design systems.

On Arena.ai’s WebDev Arena, the new model recorded an Elo score of 1,588, compared with 1,538 for Gemini 3.6 Flash.

Google is also positioning Gemini 3.7 Flash for knowledge-intensive fields such as finance, law and biosciences.

On the GDP.pdf benchmark, which tests a model’s ability to process complex documents, Gemini 3.7 Flash scored 34 per cent, compared with 22 per cent for Gemini 3.6 Flash.

It also posted a 30.4 per cent score on AutomationBench, against 17 per cent for the earlier model, indicating stronger performance on real-world business workflows.

The company said the model is better at adapting when it encounters roadblocks, clarifying intent and following instructions. It also puts greater effort into multi-step planning and tool calls, potentially reducing the need for manual intervention and repeated attempts.

The model’s other headline feature is its pricing.

Gemini 3.7 Flash will be available through the end of 2026 at an introductory price of $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens.

Google said the combination of improved performance and lower cost could allow developers and businesses to scale production-ready AI agents more economically.

Google is also bringing Gemini 3.7 Flash to Gemini Spark, its personal AI agent available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in more than 160 countries.

Spark, launched at Google I/O, is designed to operate continuously under user direction and take actions on their behalf. With the new model, Google said Spark will become more efficient at knowledge work and tool use across Google Workspace.

The upgrade will allow Spark to handle tasks such as consolidating files, drafting emails and updating status documents with improved accuracy and output quality.

Google said Gemini 3.7 Flash is shipping with updated safeguards covering potential misuse involving chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, as well as cyber offences.

The company said the updated protections are intended to support beneficial uses while strengthening its defences against harmful applications.

With Gemini 3.7 Flash, Google is betting that the next leap in AI will not simply come from making models smarter. It will come from making them more capable of completing complex work, requiring fewer prompts and costing less to run.
