Ganesh Acharya turns lyricist for the first time with Sonu Nigam’s Kar Mehnat

MUMBAI: Choreographer and filmmaker Ganesh Acharya has added another role to his creative repertoire, turning lyricist for the first time with Kar Mehnat, an inspirational song featuring singer Sonu Nigam. Released by Zee Music Company, the track is part of Acharya’s upcoming directorial film, Ganesh: Dust to Stardust, which is scheduled to arrive in theatres on 11 December 2026.

The song centres on perseverance, hard work and the determination to keep pursuing one’s ambitions despite setbacks. Its message is aimed at people across professions and backgrounds, encouraging them to remain committed to their goals even when progress is slow.

For Acharya, known for choreographing some of Hindi cinema’s memorable dance sequences, the track marks a new creative milestone. Having written lyrics for his own film for the first time, he draws on the belief that sustained effort is essential to achieving one’s dreams.

“Kar Mehnat is very special to me because, for the first time, I have written lyrics for a song in my own film. I have always believed that there is no substitute for hard work,” Acharya said.

He added that he wanted the song to remind listeners that their efforts matter and that they should not give up on themselves. Having Nigam sing his words, he said, made the experience particularly meaningful.

Nigam’s vocals bring an emotive quality to the track, which connects the film’s themes with the everyday struggles and aspirations of listeners. The singer said he related to the sincerity of the lyrics and their straightforward message.

“Sometimes, the most powerful messages are the ones we all know but need to be reminded of,” Nigam said, adding that he was happy to be part of a song that encourages people to work hard, believe in themselves and remain committed to their dreams.

With Kar Mehnat, Zee Music combines Acharya’s songwriting debut with Nigam’s voice to deliver a message that extends beyond the film’s narrative. The release also adds a new dimension to Acharya’s work across choreography, acting and filmmaking.

Presented by V2S Production & Entertainment, Ganesh: Dust to Stardust is produced by Soundarya Acharya and written and directed by Ganesh Acharya. Digangana Suryavanshi and Acharya have worked on the screenplay and dialogues.

The film’s music and background score are composed by Junaid Kumar, with lyrics by Sameer Anjaan and Acharya. Zee Music Company is presenting the film’s music. Ajay Pandey has handled cinematography, Rakesh Ram the editing, and Amrish Yamanappa Patange and Daya Vanniyar of Red Ameise the production design. Choreography is by Acharya and his team.
