Flipkart takes Big Billion Days to Kolkata streets with BBD Bagh twist
‘Kothaye Jaabe Dada?’ activation turns buses and tickets into festive sale touchpoints
MUMBAI: BBD is taking a new route in Kolkata, with Flipkart turning one of the city’s most familiar bus destinations into a clever signpost for Big Billion Days.
Ahead of the shopping festival, Flipkart has launched ‘Kothaye Jaabe Dada?’, an activation that plays on the double meaning of BBD in Kolkata. While Big Billion Days is a major shopping event for Flipkart, BBD Bagh, formerly Dalhousie Square, is one of the city’s best-known landmarks and a destination on countless local bus routes.
The campaign takes that everyday connection straight to the streets, with select Kolkata buses travelling to and through BBD Bagh carrying Big Billion Days branding. Instead of simply placing an advert where commuters might see it, Flipkart has woven the sale into a familiar part of the daily journey.
Even the humble bus ticket gets a makeover. Tickets carry Big Billion Days offers and QR codes, giving passengers a chance to scan and explore the sale while on the move. The activation also brings Flipkart’s ‘Luck Badal Sakta Hai, Yahan Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai’ proposition into the city’s commute.
The idea comes alive through a campaign film centred on a Kolkata bus conductor whose working life is closely tied to the BBD Bagh route. The film traces his journey from his first day on the bus to years of calling out “BBD! BBD!” across Kolkata’s streets.
The familiar announcement gets a festive plot twist when Big Billion Days arrives. What has long been a call for a destination becomes a cue for shopping offers, turning an everyday bus announcement into part of the sale experience.
Offer-led tickets, passenger interactions and route-style announcements further build the joke, allowing the campaign to play with something Kolkata commuters already know rather than introducing an entirely unfamiliar advertising language.
The approach gives Flipkart a way to connect the Big Billion Days proposition with a distinctly local cultural reference. Rather than treating the city simply as another market for a national sale, the activation uses BBD Bagh’s existing place in Kolkata’s everyday vocabulary as the creative hook.
The campaign film has been conceptualised by Talented and produced by Calm Kaam, with the activation extending the Big Billion Days message from screens and shopping apps to buses, tickets and the streets of Kolkata.
