DD India rules English news genre ratings

Republic TV came second.

BENGALURU: Pubcaster Doordarshan’s English news channel DD India continued at its number one position in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India’s (BARC) weekly list of top 5 English news channels for week 14 of 2019 (Saturday, 30 March 2019 to Friday, 5 April 2019, week under consideration or review). Since its entry in the BARC data fold, DD India has upset the cart for the other players. In week 3 and 4 of 2019, DD India was ranked second, just behind Republic TV. In week 5 of 2019, DD India was the most watched English news channel as per BARC data. BARC had stopped publishing data in the public domain after week 5 of 2019 to let the viewership stabilise after the commencement of the new tariff regime.

BARC re-started publishing data in the public domain in week 13 of 201 and DD India topped the charts in that week also. Now to the week under consideration. All the channels that featured in week 13 were present in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 English news channels list for week 14 of 2019 in the same order of ranks.

DD India was ranked first in week 14 of 2019 with 0.669 million weekly impressions as compared to 0.737 million weekly impressions in week 13. At second place was the Arnab Goswami-led Republic TV with 0.612 million weekly impressions in week 14 as compared to 0.618 million weekly impressions in week 13.

At third place was Times Now with 0.468 million weekly impressions in the week under review as compared to 0.421 million weekly impressions in week 13 of 2019. Times Now was followed by CNN News18 with 0.302 million weekly impressions as compared to 0.286 million weekly impressions in week 13 of 2019. Completing the quintet was India Today Television with 0.211 million weekly impressions in week 14 as compared to 0.284 million weekly impressions in week 13 of 2019.
