"Sisterhood between women needs to be practiced in the workplace": Megha Nair

I’m highly motivated by Indra Nooyi and a true fan of Priyanka Chopra, she says.

Mumbai: Today, women are breaking the glass ceiling in every sector. Beyond all this, there still exists a patriarchal mindset. Not many women are in the C-suite taking important decisions. And, of course, there still exists pay parity.

This Women’s Day, we, at Indiantelevision.com, are acknowledging some women leaders of the media, marketing, and advertising fraternity and also from other professions, who have given more than expected.

Her journey

I’m a true Indian at heart. I’m usually the first and often the last one to leave the dance floor. A similar, high-energy, unfettered approach is applied to work — I rocket my way through campaigns and aim to provide best-in-class solutions and implementation to clients.

A digital advertising maven with over 16 years of experience across agencies in India including roles with Carat, PHD, Tribal DDB, and Ogilvy and Mather, my current portfolio is peppered with prominent clients such as Intel, TimesPro, Tata Sons, Croma, Tata Neu.  I have worked hard to build an overflowing digital mandate which is a testament to solid performance in planning and buying within the company. Even amidst the peak of Covid 19 Pandemic, when economic carnage was rife, my efforts led to Carat West and South’s billings spike.

My recent accomplishments are no less impressive. New business wins, account retention, and a special mention of my work with Intel on the multi-award-winning project PC Paathshala— a user-friendly, industry-wide initiative aimed at making e-learning accessible in India.

I am regarded as a great collaborator, I count on four prestigious media awards in the last two years, including a handful for Intel’s PC Paathshala campaign for which I collaborated with 30 industry partners and stakeholders.

A hungry learner, I’m a regular speaker at industry events & panel discussions while generously sharing my meticulously acquired expertise of over 16 years. The mentor-mentee program that I spearhead at dentsu is a unique opportunity for reverse learning, driving discussions on Gen Z mindset and values, and current trends, as well as improving digital innovation skills.

Her Inspiration and inspiring the team

I’m highly motivated by Indra Nooyi and a true fan of Priyanka Chopra. I admire the way these two women have taken unconventional paths to success and built communities in extraordinary ways, across borders.

I inspire my team by being transparent with them and empathetic towards them. I make sure to effectively communicate and work towards a common shared goal with them. I believe in understanding each teammate's strengths and weaknesses and using them to build trust and support.

Taking regular feedback from juniors and seniors and constructively working on it makes me approachable to the team.

Empowerment of Women

Sisterhood between women needs to be practiced in the workplace, where we are not judged to discuss anything and everything in a safe environment. We don’t have to worry to discuss our problems or be judged or questioned about them.

Women need to support each other, respect each other, and celebrate each other. They should be encouraged to take risks, speak up and be their true selves. Women should lift each other and recognize their potential. They should embrace their differences and remember that they are all in this together.

Building sisterhood requires establishing trust and support among women. Friendships among women can help create this feeling of sisterhood. Women should strive to build meaningful relationships with each other, be willing to share experiences, and provide emotional and practical support. Additionally, women should strive to create a safe space and community by encouraging open dialogue and creating opportunities for women to connect. Finally, it is important to celebrate the accomplishments of women and recognize their strengths and contributions.
