    MUMBAI: Taj Television has acquired the media rights for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games for Indian subcontinent which includes markets like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives.

    The media rights package includes both free-to-air and subscription television rights, along with internet, mobile and radio rights. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

    As part of the deal, Taj TV will promote the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games across all of its network channels and carry extensive live coverage on Ten Sports.

    Taj TV will also work with the national free-to-air broadcasters in each country enabling them to broadcast highlights of the 17 sports on show across the 11 days of competition at Glasgow 2014.

    Taj TV is the company under which Zeel?s sports broadcasting business operates which includes Ten Sports, Ten Cricket, Ten Action+, Ten Golf and Ten HD.

    Glasgow 2014 will be the biggest multi-sport event Scotland has ever hosted and around 4,500 athletes from 71 nations will take part in the Games.

Through Taj?s efforts, we look forward to sharing Scotland?s biggest sporting spectacle with audiences across the continent," said Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg.
    The sale of broadcast right packages around the globe is a key part of Glasgow 2014?s commercial programme which aims to raise ?100million in revenue through licensing, merchandise and ticketing.

    "A key aim of Glasgow 2014 is to ensure as many people as possible across the world can share the experience of an outstanding Commonwealth Games in Scotland and the sporting achievements of thousands of great athletes from across the world," he added.

  • Ten Sports, Life OK bag rights to telecast Hockey India League

    MUMBAI: ESPN Star Sports, the official broadcaster of Hero Hockey India League, has lined up a comprehensive clutch of global syndication partners that are showcasing the tournament in over 83 territories worldwide.

    Some of the leading names in the world of sports broadcasting like Fox Sports from Australia, Sky Sports from New Zealand, Ten Sports in Pakistan and South East Asia region are showcasing live coverage of HIL in respective territories.

    Incidentally, Life OK, the second general entertainment channel from Star India, will air the tournament in UK and Europe. In South Africa, Life OK will share the rights on non-exclusive basis with pan-African sports network Supersport.

    Similarly, in the Middle East North Africa (Mena) region Ten Sports and OSN will telecast the tournament since both are non-exclusive broadcast rights holder.

    Asia focused sports network One World Sport will broadcast the tournament in USA and Canada.

    In India, the inaugural edition of the league is being broadcast with Hindi commentary on Star Sports while Star Cricket is showcasing select matches of the league in English. Live streaming of all the matches is also available on YouTube.

    The International Hockey Federation (FIH) sanctioned HIL has players from as many as 11 countries. The first edition has witnessed participation from 5 teams namely Uttar Pradesh Wizards, Jaypee Punjab Warriors, Delhi Waveriders, Mumbai Magicians and Ranchi Rhinos.

  • Ten Sports acquires WTA rights till 2016

    MUMBAI: Taj Television-owned Ten Sports has secured the broadcast rights to televise WTA Premier tournaments for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka from 2013 to 2016.

    In addition to the television rights, Ten Sports has also acquired the rights to distribute the matches on mobile and internet technology.

    As part of the deal Ten Sports will be telecasting 110 matches every year including Semi Final and Final from each of the WTA?s 22 Premier tournaments, including the year-end WTA Championships.

    Ten Sports CEO Atul Pande said, "As we continue to expand our content for viewers in South Asia, we?re delighted to add outstanding WTA women?s tennis tournaments from around the world." Women?s tennis is one of the fastest growing sports in India and we are privileged to be a part of its success.

    The WTA acquisition add to the existing strong line-up of tennis programming on TEN Sports , which includes US Open, Aircel Chennai Open, ATP 1000 and 500 Tournaments.

    The 2013 WTA competitive season starts with the Brisbane International from 3-6 January and concludes with the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, 22-27 October, and the Tournament of Champions in Sofia, Bulgaria, 29 October - 3 November.

  • Ten Sports renews deal to telecast Chennai Open

    MUMBAI: Zeel-owned sports broadcast network Taj Television has renewed its partnership with IMG Reliance for the 18th edition of the Chennai Open as the exclusive official broadcast partner.

    Chennai Open, India?s only ATP World Tour stop, will be televised on Taj TV-owned Ten Sports in India. The sports broadcaster will provide comprehensive coverage of the event from 31 December through to 6 January.

    Said Ten Sports CEO Atul Pande on the association, ?Tennis has a huge fan following across the region and our association with the Chennai Open will give a fantastic opportunity to millions of tennis fans to experience thrilling tennis action from the comfort of their homes.?
