    MUMBAI: Television trade event MipTV has said that Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, executive producers of drama "Homeland," will give a MipTV Media Mastermind Keynote on 8 April, presented in partnership with Keshet International.

    Organised by Reed Midem, MipTV 2013 will take place in Cannes, 8-11 April.

    Now in its second season on Showtime in the US, the Fox 21 production ?Homeland? won six Primetime Emmy awards, including the 2012 Outstanding Drama Series, and four Golden Globe awards, including the 2013 Best Television Drama Series. ?Homeland? is based on Keshet Broadcasting?s Israeli series "Hatufim-Prisoners of War."

    The show?s executive producer Howard Gordon first gained international attention for his award-winning work as executive producer of Fox?s series ?The X-Files?. From 2001 to 2010, Gordon was the showrunner and executive producer of ?24.?

    Before executive producing ?Homeland?, Gideon Raff created, wrote and directed ?Hatufim-Prisoners of War?, the Israel drama series. For his writing on ?Homeland? Raff received an Emmy award, a WGA award, an Edgar Allen Poe award, as well as a Peabody award.

    In front of the MipTV audience, Gordon and Raff will reveal the creative process behind the critically-acclaimed and ratings winning dramas, from conception to screen. They will discuss how these dramas have become hits around the world and what considerations were made in adapting an Israeli story for American TV, creating a hit twice-over. Gordon and Raff will be accompanied by Keshet?s VP of programming Ran Tellem, who oversaw one of TV?s most successful scripted adaptations from day one.

  • Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner to speak at MipTV

    MUMBAI: As part of MipTV?s intensified programme for brands, Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner and Red Bull Media House?s CCO, Alexander Koppel, will give a MipTV Media Mastermind keynote on 9 April.

    The programme also presents a Brands and Content Masterclass and MipTV?s Brand of the Year Award.

    Organised by Reed Midem, MipTV will take place in Cannes, 8-11 April, and includes a specialised MipCube programme dedicated to branded content and innovation in television.

    The team that achieved the Red Bull Stratos - Mission to the Edge of Space will share their experiences and some key results at MIPTV.

    On 14 October 2012, Baumgartner flew 39 km into the stratosphere in a helium balloon, before free falling back to Earth, reaching the speed of 1,342 km/h and becoming the first human to break the sound barrier without any form of engine power.

    Red Bull Media House was responsible for the documentation and multi-platform distribution of the Red Bull Stratos mission, which held the world?s attention in 2012 delivering the most watched live stream in history. Eight million eyeballs watched Baumgartner?s feat live on the web and it later entered the 2012 top ten of YouTube?s most viewed videos. During their joint keynote at MIPTV, called ?The Red Bull Stratos Experience?, Baumgartner and Koppel will speak together about the way such a global media event with one of the biggest global exposures has been created.

    MIPCube?s Brands and Content Masterclass will gather 60 executives from brands, ad agencies, production companies specialised in branded entertainment, broadcasters, digital platforms, social networks and talent agencies. On 9 April, at the Cannes Majestic Hotel, they will share best practices from a selection of some of the best branded entertainment campaigns, through high-profile presentations, debates, and hands-on workshops.

    For its third edition at MipTV, the Brand of the Year Award will recognise the best creation of original video content by a brand and its agency, and its use as a key element of a branded entertainment strategy and campaign. The competition is open until 22 February to all branded entertainment campaigns based on the creation of original video content. Fast Company?s Co.Create, the daily exploration of creativity in the converging worlds of branding, entertainment, and tech, is the official selection partner and the Brand of the Year Award will be presented to the winner during a VIP lunch on 9 April.

    MUMBAI: UK pubcaster The BBC?s controller of drama Ben Stephenson will take centre stage at the television trade event MipTV to throw light on the behind-the-scenes magic at the heart of the commissioner/producer creative alliance, during a Creative Talk on 9 April. Stephenson will also present the opening speech at MipTV?s second annual Drama Co-Production Summit on 8 April.

    Organised by Reed Midem, MipTV 2013 will take place in Cannes, France from 8-11 April 2013.

    Appointed Controller of Drama Commissioning in September 2008 and in charge of the BBC?s drama output, Stephenson has carved out a reputation for risk-taking and originality in his efforts to bring a new generation of mainstream hits to the BBC channels.

    2012 marked a string of successes, with the launch of the BBC One drama series ?Call the Midwife? and BBC Two?s ?Line of Duty?. BBC Two?s Shakespeare Season received critical acclaim and Stephenson also launched BBC One?s returning series ?The Syndicate?, ?The Paradise?, ?Prisoners Wives? and ?Last Tango in Halifax?. ?Sherlock? and ?Luther?, both originally commissioned by Stephenson, will also return this year.

    Stephenson is responsible for the re-emergence of drama on BBC Two, with a range of original programmes including ?The Shadow Line?, ?United?, ?Eric and Ernie?, ?The Crimson Petal and the White?, ?Murder? and ?Parade?s End?.

  • Endemol President Tim Hincks To Keynote At MIPTV

    MUMBAI: Television trade event MipTV has announced that Global Entertainment producer Endemol president Tim Hincks will deliver a keynote speech on Monday 8 April 2013 as part of MipTV?s Media Mastermind Keynote Series. Organised by Reed Midem, MipTV will take place in Cannes, 8-11 April 2013.

    In his MipTV address, Hincks will discuss how creativity is affected by the radical changes taking place in the industry today. As Endemol Group president, he is responsible for the creation and commercial exploitation of content across the company?s worldwide network. This incorporates operations in 31 territories annually producing more than 400 series in genres including entertainment, reality TV, game shows, comedy, drama, sport, kids programming, factual, docu-dramas and features.

  • Mipcom's opening night party to be a starry affair

    MUMBAI: This month‘s television trade event Mipcom 2012 is preparing to welcome a galaxy of internationally-recognised actors, directors, writers, producers and show business personalities, many of whom will grace the red carpet at Mipcom‘s Opening Night Party.

    Organised by Reed Midem, Mipcom will take place in Cannes, France from 8-11 October 2012.

    The Mipcom 2012 World Premiere TV Screening is new period drama, The Americans, which is being sold internationally by 20th Century Fox Television Distribution. The series‘ stars actress Keri Russell and Welsh actor Matthew Rhys will attend the gala screening and Mipcom‘s Opening Night Party on 8 October.

    Matthew Modine is turning up the heat at Mipcom to promote his role as an exiled scientist called upon to save the world in ‘Cat.8‘, a four-hour end-of-the-world miniseries produced by Muse Entertainment and distributed by Sonar Entertainment.

    Actress Gillian Anderson is launching ‘The Fall‘ at Mipcom, a new crime show to premiere on BBC Two and internationally distributed by Content Media and ZDF Enterprises.

    ‘The Walking Dead‘s Sarah Wayne Callies presents season three of AMC‘s series, alongside with producer Gale Anne Hurd, who will discuss how Fox International Channels and AMC launched the first ever television series like a theatrical movie, in over 120 countries.

    Harvey Weinstein is jetting to Mipcom to promote The Weinstein Company‘s recently-launched international television sales division. Under his leadership at TWC and Miramax, films represented by Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob have received 303 Oscar nominations and won 75 Academy Awards.

    Jane Campion is taking centre stage at Mipcom to present her new series ‘Top of the Lake‘, executive produced by See-Saw Films and internationally distributed by BBC Worldwide.

    Michael Weatherly has held the role of NCIS special agent Anthony DiNozzo since the show‘s beginning in 2003 and, at Mipcom, CBS Studios International is celebrating the 10th anniversary of one of the world‘s most-watched television franchises. Weatherly will walk the red carpet alongside writer/executive producer Gary Gglasberg who will be also participating in a masterclass on 9 October to discuss the secrets behind running a drama and what it takes to keep a series at the top after 10 seasons.

    Entertainment One is heading to the French Riviera to launch the all-new original action series, Primeval: New World, as well as the drama series, Saving Hope. Primeval‘s Niall Matter, Danny Rahim, Sara Canning and Saving Hope‘s Erica Durance, Michael Shanks and Daniel Gillies will attend Mipcom.

    BBC Worldwide is bringing actors Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg to Cannes to present the British period crime drama produced by Tiger Aspect and Lookout Point, Ripper Street. The BBC Italian-style cooking series Nigellissima will also be spotlighted at Mipcom, in the presence of internationally-renowned cook Nigella Lawson.

    Canada is the Mipcom 2012 Country of Honour. Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund are inviting world-renowned Canadian talent to meet international press during a breakfast on 8 October. The guests include Francois Arnaud, Michel Courtemanche, Stefanie von Pfetten, David Sutcliffe, Ricardo, Eve Landry and Amber Marshall.

    Dramedy Hit Women is a Rock House Productions and XII Tribes Entertainment production. MIPCOM‘s red carpet will burn under the heels of the series‘ four emotionally-charged avengers, played by Karla Dieseldorf, Diana Lovell, Kristin Passanita, and Debbie Rallo.

    Also present at Mipcom with a passion for fashion will be bridal consultant Keasha Rigsby who is taking audiences inside a bustling bridal salon in her new show Keasha‘s Perfect Dress, aired on Shaw Media-owned Canadian network Slice and produced by Toronto-based Peace Point Entertainment.

    Finally, Mipcom is welcoming its first-ever non-human walking and talking guest from British Channel 5‘s The Gadget Show, on Mipcom‘s Opening Party red carpet!

  • Canada is Mipcom 2012 Country of Honour

    MUMBAI: Canada will be the Mipcom 2012 Country of Honour, Mipcom has announced. Organised by Reed Midem, the television trade event will take place in Cannes from 8-11 October.

    As part of the tribute to the Canadian television, film and digital industries, Mipcom, in partnership with the Canada Media Fund and Telefilm Canada, will organise a dedicated Focus on Canada featuring a programme of high-level conference speakers, screening showcases, Canadian talent, and business matchmaking events.

    The Focus on Canada will run throughout MIPJunior (Oct. 6-7) and MIipcom (Oct. 8-11) and will highlight Canadian excellence in international co-productions and across all media, as well as celebrating Canadian world-class scripted dramas, animation, documentaries, films, experimental and digital media.

    The Focus will also provide an opportunity to update international decision makers on federal and provincial financing and funding incentives; the broadcast, cable and satellite distribution market; and location scouting in Canada.
