MUMBAI: RCS has introduced the latest version of news editing software, RCSnews in India. RCSnews is a radio newsroom system, which provides solutions for the entire news operation including news gathering, writing and editing to actual on-air broadcast and story archiving.

Though news is not allowed for private FM radio broadcasters in India, RCS hopes that stations will use this period to familiarise themselves with the system so that they can capitalise once the goveernment gives the green light.

The software enables reporters to write newscasts, receive, revise wire copy, digitally record, edit and playback audio. Virtual newsrooms can be created for every writer, reporter and editor, arranged with customisable filing systems, archives and organisational structure. This increases workstation speed and story-creation productivity.

RCSnews can be customised according to the needs of different stations. The software can be used from large network news operations to single station news "closets". It can be configured to adapt in any network news, peer-to-peer newsroom and the outpost environment.

RCS Vice President International Mike Powell suggests, "News is what makes radio local. And any really successful radio station anywhere in the world has a strong local presence. With RCSnews being local becomes easier, because it makes news production and presentation easier."
