• RBNL announces 'Big Rajasthan Entertainment Awards'

    MUMBAI: Reliance Broadcast Network (RBNL) has announced that its fm channel 92.7 Big FM Rajasthan is hosting ?BIG Rajasthan Entertainment Awards?.

    The award function which is set to take place in the last week of January will air on television as well. However, the broadcasting company is still looking for a channel partner because it doesn?t have any Rajasthan market specific channel.

    The awards will honour and recognize the contribution of some of the best talent housed in Rajasthan from across fields including film, music, dance, and sports among others.

    The Big Rajasthan Entertainment Awards will present popular awards basis votes from listeners across the region in 13 unique categories along with some expert comments from an panel of jury members.

    The categories in Big Rajasthan Entertainment Awards are like Big Most Entertaining Actor (Male and Female), Big Most Entertaining Music Director, Big Most Entertaining Singer (Male and Female), BIig Most Entertaining TV Actor (Male and Female) and Big Most Entertaining TV Actor of the decade (Male and Female).

    The jury and 92.7 BIG FM listeners will be responsible for nominating and eventually choosing the final winners who prove the best of the best from within the Rajasthani Entertainment industry.

    The print partners of the event include Nafa Nuksan (Jaipur), Chambal Sandesh (Kota), Dainik Navajyoti (Jodhpur), Apaharan Times (Udaipur), and Bikaner Ab Tak (Bikaner); OOH Partners - Primrose Advertising (Jodhpur), Tiwari Arts (Kota), and Prithvi Arts (Bikaner); and Cinema partners - Glitz Cinema (Jodhpur and Ajmer), Ashoka Cinema (Udaipur), Inox Multiplex (Kota).

    92.7 Big FM spokesperson said, "The first edition of the BIG Rajasthan Entertainment Awards will provide the Rajasthani entertainment industry with a unified platform to celebrate the best talent housed in the state. The event will recognise the talent and creativity which has raised the bar while creating new standards of entertainment in the industry. We are extremely glad to be joining hands with our partners and are looking forward to a star-studded night which will celebrate the spirit of entertainment in Rajasthan."

    MUMBAI: Spark Punjabi, the regional general entertainment channel from RBNL and CBS JV, is launching two homegrown properties - ?Rasoi Di Rani? and ?BIG Punjabi Jodiyan? in December.

    The two new offerings, set to go on air starting 3 December and 10 December respectively, will engage with audiences across Punjab with content around the pegs of good food and great relationships, the channel said.

    ?Rasoi Di Rani? is Spark Punjabi?s first culinary show. Hosted by Reliance Broadcast Network Network culinary head Chef Rakesh Sethi, ?Rasoi Di Rani? is a face-off challenge between two Indian housewives as they attempt to showcase the "perfect" recipes for common dishes being prepared by both contenders. The show will air every Monday to Thursday at 5.30 pm.

    ?Big Punjabi Jodiyan? is a show that aims to bring couples closer through a quiz that tests their understanding of each other as they rediscover their compatibility and strive to win a jackpot prize. The show will be hosted by RJ-cum-VJ Dhanveer and will air every Monday to Thursday at 8.30pm.

    A channel spokesperson said, "Staying true to our promise to provide variety entertainment to our audiences, we are proud to launch our two new homegrown properties - Rasoi Di Rani and BIG Punjabi Jodiyan. Both the shows will feature content pegs that will appeal to audiences, while providing marketers with multiple integration opportunities thereby enabling them to reach out to the target audiences more efficiently and effectively."

  • RBNL forays into TV production in the US; acquires 81% of Georgeville Television

    MUMBAI: Anil Ambani promoted Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd (RBNL) has forayed into television series production in the US with the acquisition of Georgeville Television, a television studio set up by 36-year-old renowned film and television producer Marc Rosen.

    RBNL has acquired 81 per cent of Georgeville Television via a step-down subsidiary in the US called Reliance TV US LLC. The price at which Reliance TV US acquired the stake in Georgeville is not disclosed.

    Reliance TV US LLC and its holding company RBN US LLC, wholly-owned by RBNL, were both incorporated on 18 June. RBN US LLC owns 65 per cent of Reliance TV US but the owner of the remaining 35 per cent stake could not be ascertained.

    Reliance TV US acquired the stake in Georgeville on 24 August 2012.

    Georgeville Television was launched in March 2012 by Rosen, best known for working on the Harry Potter film franchise, The Dark Knight and popular TV show Threshold, and Leon Clarance, CEO of Motion Picture Capital, a London-based company backed by RBNL.

    Reliance ADAG had earlier entered Hollywood funding Steven Spielberg?s DreamWorks Studios and the joint venture started producing a slate of films.

    Based in Hollywood, Georgeville TV aims to produce high-quality drama and comedy television programming for the US and international markets.

    According to Motion Picture Capital website, Georgeville TV already has a slate of shows in various stages of development and production including Crossbones, a 10-episode primetime scripted show ordered straight-to-series by NBC for the 2012-13 season.

    The other show is BLAKE?S 7, the British cult adventure classic being remade by Syfy; and Epidemic, produced by James Lassiter and Will Smith.

    MUMBAI: Reliance Broadcast Network Limited (RBNL) has narrowed its loss before tax and interest from the television business to Rs 116.6 million in the second quarter ended 30 September from Rs 228.3 million a year earlier.

    RBNL?s revenue from TV business rose 121 per cent to Rs 83.56 million in the second quarter from Rs 37.65 million a year earlier.

    RBNL runs six channels, four of them in joint venture with CBS Network which includes Big CBS, Big CBS Love, Big CBS Spark and a regional general entertainment channel called Spark Punjabi. It also runs Big RTL Thrill in JV with Europe?s RTL Group. Besides, it also has a regional General Entertainment Channel for the Hindi heartland called Big Magic.

    The company?s radio broadcasting business Big FM posted loss before tax and interest of Rs 22.27 million in the second quarter against a profit of Rs 120.27 million a year earlier, as its revenue shrunk 31 per cent to Rs 392.5 million from Rs 571 million. In the first quarter of this year, its loss before tax and interest was Rs 14.14 million.

    The company?s consolidated net loss for the second quarter was Rs 217.1 million, down from Rs 244.5 million a year earlier.

    RBNL?s consolidated net income from operations shrunk to Rs 526.1 million in the second quarter from Rs 557.1 million a year earlier. However, the decline in revenue was offset by control in expenditure, which fell 30 per cent to Rs 701.3 million from Rs 960.2 million a year earlier.

    The company said its total borrowing as on 30 September was Rs 3.14 billion.
